“Living with My Himalayan Master” is the first ever biography of the great Himalayan Master Sri Sri Bhajan Brahmachari, one of the very few disciples of the renowned Himalayan Yogi, Sri Divyananda Saraswati (popularly known as Devgiri Maharaj), the living Shiva who was at the same time the grand Master of all saints and monks who wandered in the Himalayan Tehri region. Sri Divyananda was also known and deeply revered as ‘Mother’ by all the Himalayan sages for his motherly nature. Everyday he sat on the road before the Uttarkashi Ganges and served food to every monk who passed by. Sri Divyananda Saraswati was in turn the disciple of Sri Vijnanananda Saraswati, the Raj Guru or Royal Spiritual Master of the Tehri Naresh, the King of Tehri Himalayas. This Biography is the first one of this living saint who belongs to this rare Himalayan lineage of high order. It is priceless in terms of its first-hand authenticity, extensive research from old documents and direct experience of the wisdom and living Presence of the Master himself. During all the years that the Master lived, many attempts were made to write his biography. As is documented in an old journal, “Some mysterious force stopped the publications. Either they were lost at the printing house or at home. Or, when the manuscripts were shown to Master, he declined acknowledgment. Moreover, Master’s life was a mystery and the Master rarely spoke about it, and when he did it was only in front of chosen few.” The Biography comes from the heart of the author, who unlike many other disciples of the Master, saw his Guru not in vague terms of ‘God’ or ‘Incarnation,’ but as a man, a simple, humble man who was not God because of his boundless mystical powers of healing but because of his extraordinary capacity to live and teach the greatest lessons of love, laughter, joy and sorrows through his inimitable humility. This book explores the Himalayan Master in the light of not his Himalayan descendance but the Himalayan magnanimity of his living presence. A cult is a narrow minded following of a great Master by those blind to the Master’s simplest and purely human essence. A cult is the result of followers engaging their own tiny ego-self to the Master’s vast egoless entity of indiscriminate expansion. Those whose emphasis is solely on their Master’s greatness in his or her Godhood and their Master being the one and only surpassing all other Masters only unconsciously try to assert their own ego. A true disciple is one who takes to heart at least one of the Master’s ‘human’ qualities of selfless love, compassion, purity, and simplicity, and thus becomes a true human being. Those who forgo the master’s simple human qualities but only stress his miracles or extraordinary capacities fail to attain even the basic spiritual stature of a good human. Rising above this fallacy of ego-entangled worshipfulness towards the Master, the author has presented his Master as one who, in his own words, is the definition of “pure love, pure joy.” Once, two men came to see the author, who asked both men for just one word to describe what the Master meant to them. One, who was an ‘ardent’ disciple of Sri Sri Bhajan Brahmachari, serving him for a very long time, said, “He is God incarnate!” The author just smiled. The other had never seen the author’s Master, only imagining him from the author’s words. Looking into the author’s eyes, he smiled peacefully and whispered, “Joy”. The author’s eyes glistened with a tear as he smiled gently. Shallow eulogizing the Master as ‘greatest of all’ can attract a cult, but not make a good human. But acknowledging the simplest of the Master’s human qualities can move the heart and transform consciousness. This book is one of the many true gems of narration about the life and teachings of a true Master, a Sadguru, by a person who understands the true essence of his Master, carries it in his own heart wherever he goes, and has spread its Light to many others.
