Testimonials Eduardo Marcial, Former Executive Director at the Horizon Detention Center : "Locked Up and Put Away a book written with real experiences, true stories, and I worked with Booker Geez in the facility, I saw firsthand Booker counsel juveniles and work with support staff. Reading this book brought me back to the facility and felt again how hard it was working in a Juvenile Detention center in the City of New York, Milny of the situations in the book were true and accurate. Booker Geez was true to his words. The book wall gives a clear picture of how staff struggle to survive the long hours and care for these young adults. Raw, true, and a must-read." - Keith Clinkscale, Media Entrepreneur/Former CEO of Vibe Magazine & Revolt/Executive Producer of ESPN's 30 for 30 series : "Booker Geez has had the courage to confront one of the most devastating issues facing Black men in America, mass incarceration and its ripple effect on families and children. Locked Up and Put Away shines a light on a cycle that has broken too many homes and left too many young people without the support they deserve. His voice is urgent, his truth is undeniable, and his work forces us to reckon with the deadly loop that continues to threaten our community. This is more than just a book-it's a call to awareness, courage and change." - Andy Bersin, Brooklyn Prosecutor : "Locked Up and Put Away presents a whole different look into the minds and souls of those who get caught up in the criminal justice system. Geez's view from the inside the jail system takes the reader into a world like no other and gives you a bird's eye view into the minds and souls of those incarcerated who happen to be minority youth. It's a fascinating journey wherein you learn what they are about, which encompasses the good, the bad, and the ugly. Highly recommended for those who want to learn what makes these characters tick, what life is like behind bars for them, and how they react to being incarcerated." - Aldrin Bonilla, Deputy Manhattan Borough President : "A must-read and a page turner: fully recommend to all my friends. It's the soundtrack to all who go to work every day wanting to do good, help people, and make a difference, earning an honest day's pay, and be respected and drama-free employees and supervisors." "Only to realize you're caught up in an insidious, degrading, downright no-win environment and situation." "While some dudes show false bravado and check out, spiraling into the worst of themselves inside us all, Booker Geez proved that age-old saying that the pen is mightier than the sword." "This book is a cautionary tale and an open salvo to our people that we don't have to fall on the sword of someone else's making. Kudos, my brother." BOOKER GEEZ represents the anger mob in us all. Born in the Bronx, New York Booker is the product of a mother who was a collage Professor and a father who was a photographer in the 1960's before his untimely death at the hands of a drunk driver in 1970. Booker graduated from Delaware State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising. After working as a freelance clothing designer Booker created his own collection of women's streetwear and ultimately his own boutique in the Harlem section of New York. Parental obligations became a priority and to provide stability for his son and daughter he sacrificed his dream of designing to become a juvenile counselor for the Department of Juvenile Justice in the Bronx. This is where his story begins and ends at the hands of a city agency with a turnover rate higher than any other agency in New York City. Booker currently lives in New York City where he works in the private sector with adolescents put at risk and raises his youngest son. Locked Up and Put Away is his first book.
