Sarah Robinson and her family are shipwrecked on a remote and mysterious island. Their food is running out, and their fear is escalating-there is no sign of rescue. The mysterious girl they found unconscious at the beach is healing, and what she tells them about the strange island and especially about someone called the Keeper has the family on edge. When Sarah's dad and Marco's younger brother go missing, the mystery becomes dangerous. Now, it's a matter of life and death. Now, the family is truly lost. Gr 4–6—Twelve-year-old Sarah Robinson, her stepbrother Marco, and their blended family remain stranded on an eerie and dangerous island. Picking up where Shipwreck Island (Feiwel & Friends, 2014) left off, the group has survived their first few nights on the strange island. They meet a fellow castaway, a teenage girl named Cash, who has a terrifying story to tell of someone called the Curator. He collects the oddities that they have seen so far on the island, dangerous and bizarre mutated animals and perhaps worse. While Sarah's dad and Marco's younger brother Nacho head out to look for bamboo, the rest of the group get to work building a shelter. When the others don't return, Sarah and Marco set out to find them, only to find a terrible truth. The novel ends with a shocking revelation. VERDICT While not as exciting as the first volume, this one will appeal to reluctant readers who like creepy suspense, particularly those who enjoyed the first installment.—B. Allison Gray, Goleta Public Library, CA “Bodeen's second book in the Shipwreck Island series wades a little deeper into the island's mysteries. Twelve-year-old Sarah Robinson and her newly blended family are stranded on a tropical island, where perplexing events increase as hope of immediate rescue fades. Like a deepening bad dream, the search for missing family leads Sarah and Marco (literally) to a cliffhanger and a chilling encounter with the Curator. Though characters are uneasy about splitting up, they can't resist, which allows readers to enjoy the island's scenic side, with crystal-clear streams and juicy mangoes. . . enjoyable castaway fare.” ― Kirkus Reviews “Picking up where Shipwreck Island left off, the group has survived their first few nights on the strange island. The waves of the lagoon were so calm, the absolute opposite of her pounding heart and trembling hands. She took a deep breath and tried to relax. Everyone else was gathered at the camp under the monkey pod trees, but she needed a quiet moment away from their commotion, not to mention the unspoken fear. Less than three days had passed since an unexpected and sudden typhoon had killed their skipper and wrecked the HMS Moonflight, marooning Sarah and the others. She figured it would have been much worse to be alone. At least she had her dad, John Robinson, a widower since her mother died when Sarah was six, and Ahab, the skipper's now-orphaned Newfoundland. She wasn't that thrilled about their other companions: Yvonna Murillo, her stepmother of barely a month, and her new stepbrothers, Marco — twelve, like her — and ten-year-old Nacho. She sighed. Honestly, who she was with didn't matter all that much. Because this brief time on the island — the sun would soon set on their second day — had been more than enough to make it abundantly clear that there was something terrifyingly wrong with the place. Creepy. Weird. Sinister. There were so many other words running through her mind that would totally apply, given
