Loving Life in Retirement: Making Your New Freedom Work presents retirement as a transition into a new and exciting life. Through reflections on his own life quest and his work as a psychiatrist over many years, Dr. Berenson examines the world of retirement with its multidimensional possibilities for self-discovery, growth and adventure. Enriched with 52 specific mental imagery exercises, the book focuses on overcoming negative mindsets that create obstacles to opening this new world. Dr. Berenson provides insight into common symptoms, such as depression, loneliness and anxiety. He also fully explores the challenges of facing death, the loss of family and friends and maintaining health in an aging body. Stressing that mental and physical exercises are the true elixir of life, he describes a diet and exercise program that is self-directed, effective, easy-to-use and a true departure from those currently being offered. Dr. Berenson wholeheartedly emphasizes the delightful value of romance for singles and couples and describes very effective techniques to enhance one’s sex life. For those who want to become more creative he devotes an entire chapter to the methods for developing an exciting, creative lifestyle. These exercises have proven to be successful for numerous people. To encourage retirees to use the techniques in his book Dr. Berenson has added a twelve week program that describes a tried and true method to change retirees’ lives. In addition, he has included an “Introduction to Mental Imagery” that gives them the basis for developing their own mental imagery programs in any area they desire. Loving Life in Retirement is a practical, inspirational guide for experiencing the new freedom of retirement. Everything I believe in, the ideas and philosophy that I've cultivated over the years, the emphasis that I've always placed on creativity, freedom and self-direction are in my books. The subjects of the books include: awakening creativity, love and sex, a special diet program, couple therapy, how to open a new world for retirees to make their retirement work and reading inspiring stories of patients who overcame severe emotional problems to find new and vital lives. In my novels I touch on the themes of reincarnation, virtual reality, living without a soul, the dangers of global warming and self-analysis of strange dreams that revealed a series of crimes that would shatter the lives of high ranking political figures. My most recent book Loving Life in Retirement presents new ideas and methods to aid the increasing numbers of retirees who potentially are entering the most satisfying period of their lives. I compiled the many subjects that I felt are important in the lives of people of all ages and modified them to fit the life of a retiree. I then added those elements that are unique to the older person. As we age our needs change but always your goal should be to live as meaningfully, healthfully and happily as possible and always think of yourself as young, vibrant and creative. I firmly believe that each of us can overcome all barriers to a fulfilling life. Entering the retirement period, if we must call it retirement, should only be seen as a transition to a continuing and improving productive and happy life. It can be the time of a person's maximum productiveness and creativity since much of one's chores and burdens have been left in the past. It can be the time to ever increasing fulfillment as we move wholeheartedly into the future. We all go through life cycles of varying lengths with death as the inevitable end of the cycle that was set in motion by our birth. Neither is controlled by us. In-between birth and death is a wonderland of opportunity. So often it is not until retirement occurs does the real possibility of living freely actually take place. It is a time to do everything possible to live healthfully and thus make these final years, no matter how long or short, as vital and bountiful as possible.
