Artistic director of the Missoni Archive, Luca Missoni (born 1956) has always cultivated a great passion for the moon. His interest in this celestial body originated in childhood when he began to explore the surface with a small telescope, back in the 1960s when space programs made the first lunar explorations possible. Subsequently, this passion led him to photograph the ever-changing appearance of the moon in a rigorous, almost scientific fashion, while, over the years, also pursuing his own artistic project. Moon Atlas is structured in two sections: a photographic study of the moon in each of its phases, followed by playful renderings of the moon in various colors and compositions, highlighting the tension between the bright visible face and the hidden dark side. The result is Missoni's personal interpretation of our closest heavenly body, a journey through his lifelong appreciation of Earth's satellite, and a beautiful book capturing the obsession of artists throughout history from the perspective of a seasoned eye.--Liz Hartman "Publishers Weekly " Truly out of this world.--Elaina Sullivan "Domino " Moon Atlas is both scientific in its rigorous execution and artistic in its effect.--Hannah Abel-Hirsch "British Journal of Photography "
