An account of Joe Pack’s RAF experiences in World War 2, from 1940 to 1946. He had many lucky escapes especially with Bomber Command in Northern Europe and then, after some rest and recreation, in the Indian Ocean with Coastal Command. He survived at least five life-threatening situations. Luck Joe is written by his son, Jeff Pack In late May / early June 1940 Joe had witnessed the bedraggled troops returning from Dunkirk and very soon after he enlisted with the RAF on the 9th of July. A country boy aged 22 he had never even driven a car before, but he had nothing else to do and would play his part. He qualified as a pilot in near record time. In his 6 years with the RAF (one of which was on secondment to BOAC) he had many incredible experiences. He had 5 near fatal aircraft accidents, one of which landed him in occupied Europe from which he evaded courtesy of the Comet line who found him before the Germans did. In his 6-year flying career, one year of which was with BOAC at the end of the war, he visited at least 25 countries and flew enough air miles to fly to the moon and back at least once and perhaps twice. During his overseas postings he started a correspondence which resulted in marriage just 5 weeks after he got back, and this was probably the luckiest stroke of all.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
