Dam 3 was a fishing and swimming paradise. The dam was built in 1910 to produce hydropower and generated 70,000 gallons of spring water per minute at a temperature of 54 degrees in winter and 64 degrees in summer. My friend, Miss Janice (Turner Woods) lived with her family right across the railroad track from Dam 3 in a rock house provided by Arkansas Power and Light. Janice and I spent a lot of time exploring the surrounding area and enjoying the natural beauty of Dam 3, a great place for fishing and swimming. Dam 1 was built at the head of Mammoth Spring to generate power for the mills. Now, along with the Mammoth Spring fish Hatchery, the Dam and Spring draws tourists all over the world.
