Mammoth Mountain lives up to its name with epic snowfalls and ski terrain so vast that skiers and snowboarders can explore for days without repeating a run. Even the nightlife in the nearby town of Mammoth Lakes in on an epic scale, especially on weekends when most of the cars in town carry L. A. plates. Larger-than-life ski pioneer Dave McCoy started Mammoth with little more than a dream, unbounded enthusiasm for the sport, and a genius for building and operating ski lifts. For more than fifty years, McCoy has been the driving force behind this world-class resort. Martin Forstenzer learned to ski on Mammoth Mountain in the 1970s, shortly after he first moved to the Eastern Sierra. He lived in the region for more than two decades, spending summers hiking the Sierra Backcountry and winters improving his skiing at Mammoth. For more than a decade he was a freelance Sierra correspondent for the Los Angeles Times. Over the past five years he has been a freelance correspondent for The New York Times , covering news and writing feature stories about the region. Used Book in Good Condition
