Hermes Press’ complete reprint, the second volume and final volume of the series, of the comic book version of the 20th Century’s most famous fictional magician in this deluxe version of King Features comics’ ― and Dell’s Four Color Comics’ ― Mandrake the Magician!  Lee Falk’s newspaper strip, Mandrake the Magician, offered readers, magic, occult and the fantastic and King Feature’s comic book version, which saw print during the height of the Silver Age, was a worthy entry into the world of comic books.       This Second volume of the complete comic book run of Mandrake the Magician presents six complete comics (issues #6-10 of King Comics and issue #752 of Dell's Four Color Comics) restored to their original four color glory.  This volume also contains and extensive interview with Fred Fredericks, who worked on the comic strip and well as the comic books for over 25 years and an in-depth historical essay with tons of extras! Gary T. Poole  got his start in comedy writing and illustrating a comic strip in "The Indian Post", his school newspaper at Gaffney Senior High. He moved to New York City to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Before he got involved with writing for comics he appeared in many commercials, plays and television productions. At Gold Key Comics Poole wrote for "everything they published", and in 1966 (or 1967) he wrote several stories Mandrake stories for [King Comics]]. About 1967 be became editor-in-chief at Western Publishing. Poole is also an artist and has illustrated several of his books. Harold "Fred" Fredericks Jr. began to create comic books for "Gold Key" and "Dell", including "Nancy", "The Twilight Zone", "Mighty Mouse", "Barney Google and Snuffy Smith", "Bullwinkle", "Mister Ed" and "The Munsters".On in April 1965 Fred Fredericks became the new artist on the "Mandrake the Magician" newspaper strip, after Phil Davis.After working on "Mandrake the Magician" for a long run of 48 years, Fred Fredericks announced his retirement after making 6 weeks of "Vanguard of Shadows" (story interrupted after the strip of July 6, 2013 / from July 8, 2013 the ongoing daily strip are only colored reprints of previous stories). Fredericks returned to comic books in the late 1980's, first as inker on the Defenders of the Earth comic book where he and penciller Alex Saviuk got the chance to draw Mandrake, the Phantom and Flash Gordon. After that, Fredericks remained as a productive inker until the mid-1990's on several comic books for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, He is also well known for inking "The Phantom" Sunday strips from 1995 to 2000, after which Graham Nolan took over the Sundays. He also inked one week of the Phantom daily strips in 1996 that was published in American newspapers the same week that the Phantom movie premiered.
