This book is meant to introduce the group of animals called marine mammals to children of approximately the ages of 7 to 12 years old. One focus of the book is to teach children that humans are part of and not separate from the rest of the animal kingdom. The book has six main parts. The first part defines what is meant by the term "marine mammals" and then describes the different types of marine mammals.. The second section of the book is called, “Additional Information for Parents and Teachers about Some Marine Mammals”. The third section is a glossary of the specialized terms used in the book. The fourth part of the book is on the endangered status of many marine mammals. The fifth section of the book is a list of websites that provide activities for children about marine mammals. And the last part of the book is a list of websites that supply a wealth of information on marine mammals and related topics.
