Mary Louise Huebner Hasler Born October 8, 1942 Dubuque, Iowa Husband Arthur Frederick Hasler: “This book is Mary’s story from her birth in 1942 in Dubuque Iowa when her parents lived in Platteville, Wisconsin until 2025 when Mary was 82 living with me in Utah in the winter and her beloved cabin in northern Wisconsin in the summer.” Mary married Fritz in Madison in 1965 when Fritz finished his master’s in meteorology and Mary finished her bachelor’s degree in social work both at the University of Wisconsin. Mary didn’t know what wonderful places she would visit and places where she would live throughout her life. Mary used her degree and went to work right away at Mendota State Hospital in Madison. She had two girls: Anneliese was born December 4, 1967 and Marta Fleur March 20, 1970. Fritz received his PhD in meteorology in 1971 also at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. With Fritz’s studies finished, she moved with Fritz to Boulder, Colorado where Fritz had a post doctorate appointment at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. In 1974 the family moved to Annapolis, Maryland where Fritz began a 30-year career at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Mary worked as the coordinator for volunteers at the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescence High School in Cheltenham Maryland. Her wanderlust continued throughout her life first as she lived in Paris for six months with Fritz and her two little girls Liese and Marta in 1975. She would go back to Europe many times. Mary joined Fritz on once-in-a-lifetime trips to South Africa and Kruger National Park in 2000 and 2002. They went to see their daughter, Marta, son-in-law Adam and their infant son Calvin during two trips to Bangkok, Thailand in 2003 and 2004. They also joined Marta and her family for three fabulous trips to Australia and New Zealand in 2015, 2016 and 2017. They didn’t know that Mary would finagle a wonderful summer home on Laurel Lake in Three Lakes, Wisconsin where their entire extended family would gather every summer for 30+ years. They would go for swimming, water skiing, kayaking and fishing as well as camping in the nearby Sylvania Wilderness. She didn’t know that her children and grandchildren would have fabulous times learning and perfecting their skills in water skiing on Laurel Lake. She didn’t know that she would also live in Lindon, Utah and Saint George, Utah. Mary took advantage of great snow skiing in northern Utah. Each of the places she lived had wonderful cultural and outdoor activities. She didn’t know that she would have 21 progeny with more to come and she would come love each and every one of them In 1992 Mary used a small inheritance for a down payment on a spartan cabin 25 ft from beautiful Laurel Lake in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. In 1993 Megan Katherine was born to Anneliese and Brad McDonald. She would soon become the eldest of 12 grandchildren. Over the next 20 years Mary upgraded the cabin to a wonderful partial 4-season house with beds for 12. The property, which she lovingly calls Camp Hasler, is Mary’s wonderful gift to her family. Mary has kayaked and swum with her grandchildren at every opportunity there now for 30+ summers. Fritz has been an avid water skier all his life, so he supplied the ski boat and taught all the children and grandchildren how to ski there. Mary has always been voracious reader who likes nothing better than to curl up in a chair with her dogs, first Murphy then Sadie, Max and finally Zuni in her lap or to read to a grandchild. When Fritz retired from NASA in Maryland in 2004 Mary and Fritz joined their kids and grandkids in Utah, spending 7-month winters in Lindon where Fritz taught the grandkids how to ski. During the 5-month summers in Wisconsin most of the grandchildren have used their water ski skills, to perform and star with the local Aqua Devils water ski show. In the winters.
