It follows a mouse who must get home, as soon there´s going to be a storm. But, on the way, she must stop to help others including a tiny bird who has fallen from her nest, another mouse with a broken roof - never good in storms - and a hedgehog tangled up in the long grass. The little mouse, being a kindly sort, helps them all, before finally getting home just as the big storm hits. I'm happy to recommend this book to grandparents, parents, and schools looking for a book which has a strong message of kindness. It´s delightfully (and colourfully) illustrated, and the story, although possibly a little predictable, is the sort that will put a smile on any youngster's face. In terms of the writing style, it´s simple and accessible, and I didn't spot a single grammatical error. However, I did feel the book designer could have done a better job of integrating the text with the illustrations, possibly playing with the fonts and text color. All in all, this is a fab book for 4 - 7 year olds. What I loved most about it was the many fun words the author put in. Words such as scurrying and scuttling, splish-splashing and zig-zagging. This, I feel, will go down particularly well with schools, as the young reader is exposed to new, fun vocabulary. And don´t forget to hunt out the tiny mouse hidden on every page!
