Coming through in the clutch . . . not always easy . . . doesn’t always happen! Can Rob Mathews and the Hillsdale Pirates overcome their missed opportunities . . . on and off the field? Frustration abounds both on and off the field for Rob Mathews and the Hillsdale Pirates in Missed Chances , Book 6 of the Rob Mathews Sports Seasons Series . On the baseball field, Hillsdale is a powerful team . . . but they keep missing opportunities to put teams away. Sometimes they get away with it . . . and sometimes they don’t! Naturally, Pine Bluff and the Danielson brothers stand in their way . . . but a new league foe with a gutsy pitcher rises up to add to the roadblocks to a League Championship and a shot at a bitter new rival in the Sectional playoffs . . . Tony Russo and the Valley Christian Knights. The question is . . . can they make the playoffs? A new closer and the emergence of a southpaw junior pitcher help the cause . . . with a few bumps in the road. Trip McHenry struggles at times but finds his confidence . . . enough confidence to tell the world that Hillsdale will not lose to Pine Bluff or Valley Christian again as long as he and Rob are playing for the Pirates. You might be thinking . . . what could go wrong? Off the field, Rob grows ever closer to nerdy, next-door neighbor, Allison Pierce. A quick tirade over Rob and his friends always talking about “hot” girls, wakes Rob up. Even as Allison helps him get a date to Prom with a junior, Rob is thinking about Allison . . . thoughts he never thought he’d have. Should he tell her . . . or keep quiet? Missed Chances will keep you guessing down to the last chapter. ABOUT THE SERIES . . . Missed Chances is the sixth in a completed series of twelve books by Mac McGowan. Written with a light narrative hand, riveting sports action, and a sprinkling of humor, the stories flow along briskly. The series follows Rob chronologically through his high school career, in either a football, basketball, or baseball season. Rob will face bitter rivals in all three sports and questions of morals, ethics, integrity, and social interaction, on and off the field of play. Through Rob, his mother, the girl-next-door, his best friend, a special girlfriend, and his two mentor coaches, the reader will learn life lessons along with Rob. The series matures as Rob does, slowly working his way toward adulthood as the conflicts go from bullies to bad coaches to girl problems and work their way up to relationships, where to go to college, and how to look at long-term life goals. It takes a while, but we watch as Rob goes from caring only about what a girl looks like to a guy who understands what’s inside that matters. But make no mistake . . . action-packed sports are at the heart of all 12 books. The series offers an excellent opportunity for readers to enjoy thrilling wins and losses against bitter rivals on the field or court . . . and experience the joy and heartbreak of teenage romance, learn life lessons, make better choices, learn a little coaching philosophy, and become better people. More importantly, it offers an enjoyable, easy, fun, thrilling, and satisfying read.
