Mohawk on the Delaware follows the real-Iife history of the Sewards, from the Battle of Minisink through grandson who was US Secretary of State during the Civil War. Colonel John Seward is the commander of the Sussex County Regiment that is called to alarm during the Revolutionary War and compelled to attack the British raiders.in nearby New York state. His men assemble quickly and depart, with difficulties, to the wilds of the Delaware River, where the notorious "Monster Brant" is raveling away with prisoners and plunder. A deadly battle takes place with horrendous Patriot losses. The colonel possesses great military leadership qualities but now is disillusioned. His son Samuel, warm and compassionate, consoles his father and affects his father's nature.
