"Corley, a seasoned screenwriter and director, has built a solid basis for his series with a lead character that frightens and intrigues. The author's own adventures as a nomad exploring exotic locales is beautifully intertwined in the story, giving it authenticity. Written with an eye for detail and an ear for dialogue, David Lee Corley expertly realizes the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of Southeast Asia, inviting the reader to hold on as complex characters and startling twists drive this fast-paced thriller." -Kirkus Reviews "Not only are the characters compelling, but Corley skillfully builds tension with purposeful prose using sensory details and vivid descriptions. The author, a screenwriter and director, beautifully crafts scenes that seem to come to life as if they are played out on a movie screen. With plenty of thrills, this is a gripping tale that immerses you into a foreign world of non-stop suspense." -Forward Clarion Reviews "The book's greatest strength, perhaps, lies in its precision and delivery. The author has clearly done his homework on the exotic locales and can paint a thrilling picture of the scene, whether it's a seedy bar or the banter between Billy and Eve...crime and serial killer enthusiasts looking for a cinematic reading experience will find precisely what they're looking for in the pages of Monsoon Rising ." -BlueInk Reviews I am a nomad.  I have been traveling the world for three years now searching for interesting settings for my stories. I am a firm believer that actually visiting or living in the place you are writing about gives authenticity to the story and can help bring the characters alive. I take thousands of photos of the places that I visit and take pages of notes of the strange things that happen so when it's time to write I can go back and jar my memory. Many of these little scenes end up in my stories, some even end up effecting the actual plot.  When I was writing 'Monsoon Rising' I went to Borneo and took a houseboat up a river to visit the orangutang sanctuaries. I slept on the top deck of houseboat. I was alone and it was pitch dark. I remember thinking "If this boat sank I would need to hoof it out by foot through the jungle. I'd be dead by morning." It was a spooky feeling. The final chapters of Monsoon Rising were based on that feeling and take place on that jungle river.Although it sounds kind of strange, I believe good writing is about telling the truth.  Yes, it's fiction, but it's important to be true to the characters and write them they would really react in a given situation. All characters do things for a reason and would really only act one way in a give situation if the author understands the character. Hemingway always talked about the struggle to find the truth in his writing.  When I read "Old Man and The Sea" I began to understand what he was talking about. It was such a simple story, but beautifully written. It felt like the old man was a real person and that you were in the boat with him.  Hemingway found the truth in that character and it turned a simple little story into a Pulitzer Prize winning novel. I wept at the end of the story. It was so beautiful and the truth so profound.I am currently in Hanoi, Vietnam researching my next book "We Stand Alone" which is based on the Indochina war when the Vietnamese fought the French for their independence. I spend a couple of days touring the final battlefield in Dien Bien Phu and I even found an autobiography about the battle written by the Vietnamese General Giap. Reading his thoughts on the battle changed my perspective and gave the story an entire new dimension. It is important to me that I tell that story as accurately as possible. It is a pivotal moment in history and deserves to be treated with respect. I will do my best for you the reader. You deserve to know the truth.
