Being a kid is an important time in life. It's the start of your development into who you will become as an adult. One could describe your years as a kid, as the seed of life. Once that seed is planted, then it's time to water the seed and for the seed/kid to grow as a teenager. For Cory Metz his seed was planted with no problems. His issues came with the way his seed grew as a teenager. Cory Metz was different compared to the other seeds/teenagers. He saw those other seeds/teenagers grow as normal plants, while he grew differently. And he lost part of who he could have become because of his difference.
