I was born in Mason county, Texas. My sister, Doris, and I went to college in San Antonio, Texas in 1943. We shared a room at the YWCA. I went with four girlfriends to the U.S.O.one night. A handsome Air Force gentleman asked me to dance and would not let anyone cut-in, soon we were asked to leave the dance floor or share dances. Well that’s when it all began! That weekend I asked Lloyd to take a Greyhound bus ride to Mason Mountain to meet my parents. We saddled up a couple of horses to see all the sights and promised my mom we would be home by 4:00. We got home just a little late because we forgot where we tied the horses. Our story was never believed.. Lloyd had gotten orders to report to the Air Base in Denver, Colorado the next weekend. He asked me to marry him, so that meant things had to happen fast. My aunt took me shopping and I made arrangements with the church. I met my parents at the YWCA dressed in my new duds. Daddy walked me down the aisle while Aunt Ann played the ‘Wedding March”. I don’t know how Lloyd got me on that troop train – but there I was. We were married for 63 years when Lloyd passed away in 2008 in Arizona. I returned to Mason county and moved in with my sister after her husband died. October 13, 2020 was my 100th birthday.
