My Uncle loved his Model 8. He had purchased it new in Washington State on a hunting trip. It was a caliber .35 Remington Model 8 rifle that he thought would serve double duty, as his rifle for deer hunting, and to help in his role as an inspector for the Des Moines Police Department. With his issue Smith and Wesson Military and Police revolver, they became his sidearms on and off duty. There are pictures of Chester Jackson standing with a rack of deer hunted on the family farms in Okoboji and Spencer. He was holding one with two officers standing next to a Model T automobile. His rifle though was unusual. He had a military sling attached to the weapon when none was sold with the weapon. The open barley corn sights were replaced with a Lyman-style peep sight. He had a leather pouch on the stock into which he carried a pair of clips to load the weapon with, clips that would years later cause a rather angry man to tell me that rifles used box magazines, not clips. This one though used clips just like an army rifle of the era. The day Chester, then chief, was mortally wounded on duty, 2 December, 1918, he had this rifle with him, though he had to return fire with his .38 revolver. But the rifle has passed down to the family and still fires, though it is getting old. And when his department and the people who he served have forgotten him, his family can still remember his history and what he did for us each time we look at it. Welcome to My Remington Model 8, Charles Chester Jackson's rifle of choice.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
