Superman and Batman meant nothing to me when I was a little boy. My role models were hustlers, and I wanted to be just like them. John Dillinger, Baby-face Nelson, and Pretty-boy Floyd were my screen idols. Wanting to be more infamous than them all, I progressed from burglaries and armed robberies to selling drugs and pimping women. At my pinnacle I was a drug dealer operating a $3,000 a day enterprise. When I hit my bottom I was a drug addict panhandling, sleeping in homeless shelters, abandoned cars, and vacant buildings. It was fun in the beginning until my addiction took over; then it wasn't fun anymore. Reflecting on my life, I can say, "I know how the rat felt...forget the cheese, I just want to get out of the trap." I had become that rat in the trap; nothing mattered except getting out, and the only escape for me was through Jesus Christ.
