Freshman college student Jeannette Thomas goes out for a horseback ride on a remote Virginia mountain and comes back a suspect in the disappearance of a small plane pilot. While Jeannette is out riding, a small plane comes to rest belly down and almost completely hidden in the brush and briers of a grown-over farm field. By the time she discovers it, the pilot, Harold Boyd, is already gone. No one has heard from him since. Alone near the time and place Boyd was last believed to be alive, Jeannette is a prime suspect in his disappearance. The only way her name can be cleared is for Boyd or his dead body to be found and the real culprit identified. Law enforcement doesn’t seem to be making much progress in that regard. Jeannette must solve the riddle of what has happened to Boyd and bring the perpetrator to justice or face a lifetime worried that, one day, Boyd’s body will be found and she will be arrested, tried, and convicted for a murder she did not commit. Mystery On Baylor’s Mountain is set in Giles County, Virginia, not far from the campus of Virginia Tech. The characterizations of the protagonist’s Arabian horse are true to life.
