The WARchive Photo Series brings the previously unpublished aviation photo collection of Will Riepl to the world. With over 100 never before seen photos, this book provides a unique view of the little-known Naval Air Station Seattle. “NAS SEATTLE is a unique, engaging, and entertaining time capsule of a colorful local aviation era not previously well documented.” Tim Nelson, Internet Modeler Naval Air Station Seattle operated as a US Navy aviation training facility on Lake Washington for nearly fifty years from 1926 to 1970 and remained as Naval Station Puget Sound in a support role until 1995, forming a long history of US Navy activity on Puget Sound during the 20th Century. Located on the western shore of Lake Washington, NAS Seattle saw a diverse collection of aircraft types operating from its runways before the airfield portion was shut down in 1970. This book covers the period between the late-1950s to the mid-1960s when the photographer Will Riepl served in the Marine Corps Reserves as a crew chief while stationed at NAS Seattle. Initially working on the Douglas AD-5 Skyraider and later on the Fairchild C-119 Boxcar, his time at NAS Seattle also saw the base operate aircraft such as the Grumman S-2 Tracker, Lockheed P-2 Neptune, North American T-28 Trojan, and more, many of which became the subject of his camera.
