No Greater Calling If Paul were to write you a personal letter, what do you think he would say? Perhaps he might add a bit more for the sake of being relevant to you and your world; but he would not diminish one iota his instructions for the radical, go-for-broke, Kingdom-entranced life he urged Timothy towards... and presently urges each of us toward as well! II Timothy is not a book as it is often called. It is a letter. I prefer to call it a "battlefield missive." It is not a gentle reminder to Timothy of things to keep up after Paul has departed. It is a war cry; the aged apostle's passionate pleading with Timothy to make his life count!
