This collection of short stories reflects the author's own experiences as an emergency surgeon in Brazil of the '90s. The stories are mostly snapshots of the intersection between the author's and his patients' lives. Some tell about success and happiness, others about resignation and the need to face life as it is. Even though the stories are based on real facts, there are quite an element of fantastic that can only be taken at face value if one keeps in mind that life can be often stranger than fantasy. There is no relation between this work and the TV series, and although the author has been an admirer of M. Bulgakov's "Heart of a Dog" and "Master and Margarita" for decades, it was only after finishing this collection of stories and visiting Bulgakov's house in Kyiv that the author read Bulgakov's "A Young Doctor's Notebook".

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
