Feng Youlan (1895-1990, also rendered as Feng Yulan) was one of the leading philosophers and educators in twentieth century China. He has been credited with reviving the study of comparative philosophy in China and has influenced generations of scholars worldwide. Feng graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Beijing University in 1918. He obtained his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1923. Feng is the author, translator, and compiler of over 30 books and more than 500 articles on Chinese, Western, and comparative philosophy. This collection of original essays represents some of his best work in the field of comparative philosophy. Feng Youlan (1895-1990) was educated at Peking University and Colombia University. He served as Chair of the College of Arts at Tsinghua University for 18 years.
