Mark Roberts and his cousin Eddie Johnson travel to Portland to see about purchasing some horses from the Stanton Ranch. They’re told to meet first with a lawyer named Dan Robertson. Mark does, but doesn’t like the sound of a conversation he overhears in the lawyer’s office. He decides to ask some questions around town and find out more. Abigail Stanton doesn’t know what she’s going to do next. The only thing she knows for sure, is that she isn’t going to marry Dan Robertson. Dan insists that she has to. After all, it’s what her father wanted her to do and wrote in his will. If she doesn’t, Dan gets half of the money from the sale of her father’s ranch. Abby knows Dan’s lying, she just doesn’t know how to prove it. Mark and Abby have an immediate connection once they meet, and after hearing what Abby and her ranch hands have to say, Mark believes her. Together they decide what to do with her ranch and how to handle Dan. Abby is grateful for Mark’s help, and knows she’s falling in love with him. If only she didn’t have such a bad temper, maybe she wouldn’t have ended up over Mark’s knee.
