My husband and I are always interested in traveling and teaching our kids new things about the places we get to visit. Peace and entertainment on the road trips, due to great reading material, is a total A+ to boot! I would definitely recommend these, especially as I wound up reading through myself, interested not just in the delightful learning story, but in the fun facts, activities and bonuses in back of the book. We can't wait for more books to connect this great new series! I'm waiting for Ireland and England and Russian parks and landmarks I'd never heard of to hit My hands, in the near future, let alone the kids. Verified PurchaseWhat a journey! I would give this book six stars if I could. My kids love this book, and became quite upset when it ended. They read the book out loud during our drive to San Diego and could not put it down. I listened the entire time. The description of camping in Yosemite is wonderful, the tradition of calling to a person named Elmer was amusing and intriguing at the same time. I love the Native American protagonist Pamahas and the fact that Paul Bunyan now has a son, Paul Bunyan Jr. Beginning in the Mariposa grove, looking at life through the eyes of one of the oldest and largest trees on earth, and ending with an amazing detailed description of the historical Presidential visit to Yosemite made by President Obama. Without mentioning Obama in the book it is obvious it is him. Visiting Paul Bunyan's home. The highlight of the entire book was feeling as if John Henry was alive and feeling him as a father. I looked up his wife's name Talitha and I found some interesting hidden Easter eggs in the story that might me exciting to imagine. At the end of the book you are given a chapter of fun facts and word searches. This was a genius idea except I might have purchased an extra book for both children if I knew they would both want to find the words alone. 5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story.
