Perfect Pitch: Galvanized by Grace. People thought Mr. Gregory had seen everything. He knew he hadn't. For seven decades, Mr. Gregory bore witness to history unfolding right before his eyes from his shop in his beloved South Berkeley neighborhood. His father had opened the cleaners before he was born and Mr. Gregory had joined him as soon as he was old enough to see over the counter. There was no place he would rather be. He had watched as businesses opened around him , all owned by Colored people— a medical practice, a pharmacy whose pharmacist went on to become a politician in Washington, D.C., a dental office, two beauty salons, a record shop, and the list went on. Those days had been South Berkeley’s heyday and it had done Mr. Gregory’s heart good to see Colored people owning businesses and buying homes in the neighborhood. But every silver lining has a cloud and a dark cloud descended on South Berkeley, bringing crime, drugs, and personal heartache. But, Mr. Gregory clung to Sara Jameson’s words: “We fall from grace, but we always get up. ”Perfect Pitch, The Julia Street Series Book 3 lovingly spans 1943 through today. I loved the way the author explored the ups anddowns of an established family as they navigate their way through the variouschallenges (social, economic downturn etc.) of their Berkeley community. Thisbook is warm and nostalgic. It is an easy read and a wonderful story! - This book is wonderful. The characters were genuineand reminded me of families I knew. I grew up in South Berkeley so I couldrelate to Mr. Gregory's story. Perfect Pitch is an example of the hard work, support, and love the family had not only for each other but for their friendsand neighbors as well. The Julia Street Series was written as a tribute to every woman I have ever met. It is set in Berkeley, California on the street I grew up on. While it does not depict any specific person, it pays homage to people who were important in our family folklore and helped shape our family culture. Much of the story is pure fiction, starting years before I was even born, but it is very much based on things that I know can happen in real people's lives. Join me on Julia Street as the story of the Jameson family unfolds... As Perfect Pitch joins Sara's Song and Dance or Get Out to complete theJulia Street Series, it is only fitting that I acknowledge those who made this journeypossible. My eternal gratitude goes to my parents, Anna and Bob Jones, whobravely and selflessly migrated from their home and loved ones in Chicago,Illinois to South Berkeley, California, a place where they knew no one, to giveour family opportunities that they could have only imagined. I am immenselygrateful to the rest of my family, friends, and school mates who have sharedtheir memories, time, talents, and patience to bring this story to fruition. Ithas been my pleasure and honor to shine a light on a time and place whereordinary people often did extraordinary things. Award winning author Tina Jones Williams was born and raised in Berkeley, California. There were six children in her family, three boys and three girls - a matched set. She attended a neighborhood elementary school where she learned that having fun and getting along with others was the true reason for going to school. She was a member of the first desegregated class at  her Junior High and later Berkeley High School, the only public school in town. Tina loved being a teen in Berkeley in the late 60s - her group of friends had free reign in the city and on their own they discovered ways to navigate the twists and turns of life. Her first summer job at University of California at Berkeley was in a building just off of Sproul Plaza where, on any given day, she could look outside her window and see students protesting social injustice and police officers attempting to dissuade them. After high school graduation, Tina went to Austin to attend the University of Texas, earning a B.A. degree in Business/Gen'l & Comparative Studies. There were 50,000 students at UT - 500 were Black. Ironically, Austin is where she made her first White friend, becoming roommates in an apartment off campus. The lure of family brought her back to the Bay Area where she married, settled in Silicon Valley, and had a career in the High Tech Industry. She is still happily married (to the same man) and the mother of two adult children who are the apples of her eye. She is close to her extended family and delights in her friendships. Tina is a proud and active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the oldest African American Sorority with an International membership of over 260,000 college-educated women committed to a lifetime of service to ALL mankind. Tina hopes you enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoys writing them.  Books by the author "Some Things I Want You to Know" the Julia Street Series; "Sara's Song", "Dance or Get Out", and "Perfect Pitch".Coming in 2019 "For Their Convenience"
