In “Pistachio Man,” a mesmerizing novel by award-winning journalist Roger Ballas, readers will quickly find themselves on an epic adventure full of passion, supernatural spirits and paranormal horror. Set mostly in Florida during the 70's and 80's, this page-turner grabs your interest from the beginning and never lets you go, as you join Nick Walters’ amazing journey. Nick sets out to discover the truth about himself, and his father, Dr. Greg Walters, a mysterious, yet likable psychiatrist, who spent weekends visiting patients – one young man, in particular – at a state hospital. You will be drawn into the disturbing world Nick finds in the hospital which, while under a dark cloud of suspicion over heinous patient abuse and poor record-keeping, finally is forced to close. Nick is so disturbed, yet fascinated, by what he is learning about his father and the hospital, he begins to write a book about both. Along the way, Nick finds romance and meets many special friends. He experiences the visions of languishing, tormented spirits of abused and murdered children, all once patients at the hospital. And, he is surprised by a meeting with a man his age who claims to be his half-brother. Nick learns much about revenge, death, and the supernatural realm than he ever thought possible. He hoped to get married, raise a family, and complete his book but, as is often the case, things change. In the end, though, he has only one regret ... and her name is Jessie. “Pistachio Man” may offer some answers about spirits, revenge, and ultimate peace. But, it also leaves many unanswered questions, and you will finish wanting to learn more. If you have ever felt a cold presence watching you, or sensed something standing by your bed in the night, you must read “Pistachio Man.” 1. Kerr reviewed Pistachio Man: Every Little Soul Just Wants Peace2 of 2 people found the following helpful Pistachio Man July 15, 2017I gave this offering a 5 star review for a number of reasons. The book is a colorful, and at times wild ride. It takes one through small, quaint, and seemingly quiet towns along the gulf coast of Florida. There is very a comprehensive exposition of the settings, characters and events. The plot moves along without a hitch. A number of surprises are in store for the reader. It is a page turner at times and never seems to quit. There are injections of humor with each new chapter title. The titles are songs from the 70s and, 80s , in keeping with the setting. Foreshadowing is skillfully utilized, as the name of each song links the plot together. I recommend this book with all of its twists, turns and suspense. It would make a great gift for most adults. I look forward to more from this author.Show LessView on Amazon.com Add a comment View this book's reviews on Amazon.com3. New! The characters are believable, fully fleshed out with realistic dialogue, well researched historic settings, and intelligent, compelling pacing. It all wraps up to a satisfying ending, leaving an opening for sequels. Great freshman work by Mr. Ballas, hope to see more of his writings! I've been told slow and steady wins the race.   After 45 years of writing, editing and managing newspapers from Ohio, south to Florida, and west to Texas, that race is pretty much over. I'm retired now. Writing is my hobby, along with painting. I'm doing them both my way, and at my speed. If you've read this far and haven't groaned, I think you understand.   From all those many years of traveling, and interviewing thousands of people, from sweet girl scouts to insane murderers, I believe I have gleaned an understanding of the human condition and the joy and pain we all experience. I am humbled by your interest and hope you will follow me as I add more books for your enjoyment.
