I knew my dating practices were not in alignment with my beliefs. Here’s the picture: You’re a Christian. Not just because of a family-based religious tradition. But you recommit or come to faith as an adult. You ask Jesus to come into your heart and save your soul. So your soul is His. But somewhere in the course of life, someone catches your eye. You begin to date the way society tells you (the only way you know how). Over a period of some months, your body belongs to that someone. Since you’ve been hurt in the past, you don’t fully trust that person. The past has your mind, so you hide your heart. Let’s recap. Your soul is with Jesus. Your body is with whoever you are dating. Your mind is still stuck on the last person who broke your heart. You’ve wrapped your heart in protective armor so no one can ever break it again. Where are you? You are all over the place! The person you’re seeing may even ask, “Why don’t I feel like I have all of you?” God’s asking the same question. I needed to close the gap between my faith and my everyday life. God is not keeping you from intimacy; he wants to prepare you for it.
