Kim Spranger is a christian mother and physical therapist living her dream life in a small rural part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan along the shores of Lake Superior. She has escaped her painful past (losing both her father and brother to cancer at young ages) in this beautiful place with her husband, Todd, and two preschool children at her side…. until the day that the storm roared in. It came in the form of a simple tummy ache in her three- year old son Tucker. Within hours, the thunder and lightning started…words like advanced cancer are mentioned and recommendations that the family leave their home and beloved peninsula for treatment are made. Kim stares out the hospital window at Lake Superior contemplating it all. She notices that outside too, storm clouds are building up. As she watches the horizon change, she hears a voice within her.. The voices asks if she sees the similarities between this sky and her life. As tears start to form, she nods “yes”. The voice then asks if she wants to know how to survive this storm and come out on top? Once again Kim nods “yes”. Suddenly a beautiful rainbow emerges from the clouds and the voice whispers “Get on My rainbow and ride it!” This book is the story of the Spranger family’s faith journey through cancer. It is also is a modern day parable as told through Kim as she seeks to understand what it means to ride God’s rainbow and find God’s favor. It is written as evidence that God is still moving in our world today and leads the reader to look for where God is working in their lives. One of Kim’s patients who has read the book said: “This book is not just a story about fighting cancer. It is about how God shows up when you seek Him will all of your heart. It awed me!”
