This book is about a metrical composition in Arabic from a West African Scholar and Spiritual Guide, entitled Rumna Shukur. Rumna Shukur is a poem written by Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba during his exile in Gabon or more precisely while in Mayumba where he stayed for five years during which he says he had become ‘like a sun’ . It is part of the Bah’riyaat writings which are qasaids written during the exiles. In this qasida, the Shaykh shows his spiritual dimension, his access to the divine presence and his courtesy toward his lord. Rumna Shukur is an acrostic of the Quranic verse: ربّ أوزعني أن أشكر نعمتك اللتي أنعمت عليّ وعلي والديّ وأن أعمل صالحا ترضاه وأدخلني برحمتك في عبادك الصّالحين Inspire me Lord to give thanks for the favors you have bestowed on me and on my parents, and to do good works that will please You. Admit me through Your mercy among your righteous servants. Sura 27:19 Rumna Shukur is found in many compilations such as Fulkul Mash'hoon (The Loaded Ark) it is also found in the book of Serigne Hamidoune Lo as part of a compilation of more than a hundred poems under the direction of Sheikh Shu'ayb Mbacke. Its metric is Bahrul-Basīt Al Maqtūh and it is comprised of 89 stanzas.
