Runners and other endurance athletes face specific challenges, illnesses, and injuries. Race First Aid focuses on the specific first aid needs of these athletes while filtering extraneous information contained in a generic first aid manual. And because an endurance athlete's injuries and illnesses are frequently unique, we've included specific recommendations and guidelines culled from more formal sources so that medical volunteers can also familiarize themselves with some of the more uncommon problems. Jeremy Joslin, MD, FAWM is an emergency physician with experience and training in the wide spectrum of prehospital medicine. As the director of the Wilderness & Expedition Medicine program at the State University of New York: Upstate Medical University, he maintains a research focus in endurance activities and heat-related illness. He has worked expeditions and events in remote environments around the world; and provides event medical direction for several local endurance races. Dr. Joslin provides academic and operational support as an EMS Physician, and is available for medical direction to local fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies as well as for endurance races, mass events, expeditions, or search and rescue operations around the world and in the most austere environments.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
