The times are changing. With the production of automobiles on the rise and the promise of telephones to soon become the standard in communication, the American West is in an era of transition and the old ways are slowly being replaced by modern convenience. Just as the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition is set to get underway, gold coins minted to commemorate the occasion go missing and the thief responsible has vanished. When shorthanded law enforcement fails to get any leads on the culprit, they enlist the assistance of Jennie Palmer and her husband, famous tracker Luke Palmer. Now a special deputy on temporary assignment, Jennie uses her wit and investigative technique, along with the help of friends and a special hound named Eli, to try to crack the case and recover the missing gold. While new clues are revealed and suspects begin turning up dead, Jennie is drawn deeper into a web of mystery and by getting closer to solving it, even she may become a target.
