Maria Clemm. Was she an Angel helping her son-in-law? Or, an evil Woman to write "begging letters" continuously? You can know that here. In the letters which are presented in this book, not a few ones were rarely known until now, but some of them were firstly printed here. Never miss them. Kazuhiko Tsuji is the author of dozens of books and academic essays, one of them is Beyond the Phelps Farm: Mark Twain and the Nineteenth Century America(Keisuisya, 2001). His major is American and Japanese literature/culture in the nineteenth and twentieth century. He received his Ph.D. from Hiroshima University in 2000, and stayed in New York as Visiting Scholar of Division of Arts and Humanities, Queens College, the City University of New York in 2017-2018. He now belongs to Kindai University, Japan, as Professor at Department of Literature, Faculty of Literature, Arts and Cultural Studies, and lives in Osaka, Japan.
