Red Sage FRANCY STOLLER Francy Stoller was born on the Upper West Side of N.Y.C. in 1948. It wasn’t long until as a school age girl she was already active in Poetry with the National Forensics League, touring the New Jersey region, from schools to churches, saying poems by Elizabeth Browning and other known Poets. As a college student Francy beat a path to Scandinavia, hitching a plane ride with the Finnish Philharmonic Orchestra to Helsinki. Here she lived day to day cultivating a free wheeling pursuit and exploration of life. Back in N.Y.C. in the late sixties and living in James Dean’s old apartment on W. 68th st. Francy works as an actress in film and stage. Here she marries painter/sculptor Stephen Stoller. Together for over fifty years, they raise a family of six children and twelve grandchildren to date. All the while Francy works at Poetry saying her poems at every opportunity. She works with Poets in Quebec, Canada (La Macaza), Atlanta,Ga., and then in Indpls., In. where she initiates her close affiliation with the Poet Etheridge Knight and his Free Peoples Poetry Workshop. Francy soon assumes her position of ‘First Lieutenant’ working with Knight in dual readings around the city. Her work in the oral tradition flourishes and is broadly applauded. Returning to N.Y.C. Francy continues saying poems in clubs and venues in the downtown area, including the Nuyorican Cafe, ABC No Rio, and Club 13. Now, in Red Sage are various signature poems and more current selected works by this unique talent as she keeps stride with our fast paced literary world.
