Although Harriet Tubman, Lucretia Mott and Sojourner Truth were known to me, what a pleasant surprise to read about four additional women! For teachers it's an excellent resource for your classes. For parents I recommend this as one additional book on your children's bedside stand for story-time. Never during my youth were there inspirations to learn about any of the women gracing the 160 pages of Carol Simon Levin's book. Whether she is impersonating the woman who helped to build the Brooklyn Bridge or the first woman to be elected to Congress, telling the amazing stories of early women in aviation, engaging families in a rousing Halloween Hootenany of songs and stories, expanding on the mathematical and artistic possibilities of a simple square, sharing the story of a dolphin who learned to swim with an artificial tail (along with activities to help children understand what it is like to live with a disability), or creating a coloring book and historical program celebrating ground-breaking women in American political history, she always strives to engage the audience's interests and expand their horizons. She has always been particularly fascinated by the history of technology and women's history.
