It’s not “just” a coloring book! Each two page spread also includes a full page bio, a fascinating fact and a quotation along with recommendations for further reading, suggestions for activities and activism and places to visit. It’s inclusive and diverse, featuring many unsung heroines and many women of color.Whether you want to color, read, or use this book as a springboard to learn or do more, this book has something for all ages.Includes illustrations by 36 Artists:Aarti Arora, Aditi Tandon, Aileen Wu, Amber McGonegal, Arlene Holmes, Barbara Schneider, Caroline Mack, Caroline Yorke, Crina Magalio, Diana Patton, Holly Bess Kincaid, Jasmine Florentine, Jen Wistuba, Jill Obrig, Jill Schmidt, Jody Flegal, Judy Hnat, Julie Goetz, Justine Turnbull, Kat Schroeder, Kim Defibaugh, Kim Wood, Laura Leigh Myers, Laura Davidson, Lena Shiffman, Leslie Simon, Lynnor Bontigao, Mariya Kovalyov, Mary Delaney Connelly, Monisha Kulkarni, Natalie Obedos, Rachel Wintemberg, Sheryl Depp, Tiffany Castle, Tish Wells, and Victoria Ford. In single page mini-biographies, every one of these women's accomplishments tell how they impacted the lives of others...my interest was reading about seven women who are featured in the section- Abolitionists and Suffragists. Although Harriet Tubman, Lucretia Mott and Sojourner Truth were known to me, what a pleasant surprise to read about four additional women! For teachers it's an excellent resource for your classes. For parents I recommend this as one additional book on your children's bedside stand for story-time. Never during my youth were there inspirations to learn about any of the women gracing the 160 pages of Carol Simon Levin's book. If I had one prayer to take flight on this Day Without A Woman, it would be for society to open their eyes, hearts and minds. -- Doreen Stratton thebucksundergroundrailroad.com/2017/03/08/international-womens-day/ My motivation is to help girls and women (and sympathetic guys) recognize that the vote is precious and we shouldn't take it for granted.  I chose to do it by creating a unique coloring book with the hope that coloring might spur curiosity, and that reading the facts, fascinating factoids, and quotes from these amazing women would motivate the people to exercise their voices and their votes alongside their colored pencils!  As Carrie Chapman Catt wrote when the 19th Amendment finally passed,  "The vote has been costly. Prize it."  Illustrations by 36 Artists:Aarti Arora, Aditi Tandon, Aileen Wu, Amber McGonegal, Arlene Holmes, Barbara Schneider, Caroline Mack, Caroline Yorke, Crina Magalio, Diana Patton, Holly Bess Kincaid, Jasmine Florentine, Jen Wistuba, Jill Obrig, Jill Schmidt, Jody Flegal, Judy Hnat, Julie Goetz, Justine Turnbull, Kat Schroeder, Kim Defibaugh, Kim Wood, Laura Leigh Myers, Laura Davidson, Lena Shiffman, Leslie Simon, Lynnor Bontigao, Mariya Kovalyov, Mary Delaney Connelly, Monisha Kulkarni, Natalie Obedos, Rachel Wintemberg, Sheryl Depp, Tiffany Castle, Tish Wells, and Victoria Ford. Carol Simon Levin is youth services librarian, author and historical impersonator specializing in "Telling HerStories: Fascinating Women History Forgot." She delights when members of the audience come up after her presentations wearing puzzled looks as they try to figure out how she can possibly be over 100 years old! Whether she is impersonating the woman who helped to build the Brooklyn Bridge or the first woman to be elected to Congress, telling the amazing stories of early women in aviation, engaging families in a rousing Halloween Hootenany of songs and stories, expanding on the mathematical and artistic possibilities of a simple square, sharing the story of a dolphin who learned to swim with an artificial tail (along with activities to help children understand what it is like to live with a disability), or creating a coloring book and historical program celebrating ground-breaking women in American political history, she always strives to engage the audience's interests and expand their horizons. She has always been particularly fascinated by the history of technology and women's history. She is happy to bring her presentations to libraries, senior centers, historical societies, schools, camps and other venues. Each can be tailored to different ages.
