No unit in the armed forces can more rightly be called “Canada’s historic Regiment” than The Queen’s York Rangers. Founded over 260 years ago by Robert Rogers, one of North America’s most remarkable warriors, and later led by John Graves Simcoe, the father of Ontario, the Rangers have distinguished themselves in many momentous events of our past. Beginning in 1755, as the final contest between New England and New France was brewing, Rangers patrolled deep into the no-man’s land separating the two colonies. Learning from the enemy, these men pioneered a unique form of irregular fighting for British forces, whose legacy lives on today. This short history details their service over the past three centuries.
