The hill tribes of Southeast Asia told legends that one day the White Book that their ancestors had lost would be brought back to them. When the Karen tribe saw the Bible in 1813 through the mission of Adoniram Judson, they recognised the White Book of their stories. This is the amazing true story of how the faith spread through the land of Myanmar, formerly Burma. Return of the White Book is a compelling and inspiring addition to the Hidden Heroes series. It provides an amazing window into the lives of a people group that are not well known by the modern western world. I highly recommend this book and the entire Hidden Heroes series to introduce children to the mighty works of God in the uttermost parts of the world. ★★★★★ --Busy Mom of 10, Amazon Reviewer Rebecca Davis has a gift for telling the stories of missionaries ministering to tribal people groups. Even more impressive, she is gifted at telling these stories for elementary-aged children in a way that honors the people being ministered to and celebrates the obedience of the missionaries. ★★★★★ --Danika Cooley, Amazon Reviewer This book is a fascinating story of the early days of missionary witness in Burma in the Karen tribe in the1800s. . . This is excellent to read to elementary age children and will open their eyes to God's power and love in a new way. It would be good for older children and parents as well, to gain a new understanding of the spiritual battles in this world. I would have loved having it to read to my students in a Christian school before I retired, and it will be great addition to homeschooling families. ★★★★★ --Lois E Lundin, Amazon Reviewer In 1981, Don Richardson (who was a missionary featured in Hidden Heroes #3, Witness Men ) wrote a book called Eternity in Their Hearts. This book described how, when the gospel of Jesus Christ had come to people groups all over the world, many of these peoples embraced the truth because their hearts had been prepared through old legends or old memories or old prophecies The Karen nation of Burma was one, and the story of the Guardian of the Book especially made an impressionogn me. I thouht, "I want toot write these stories for children to read." That was thirty years ago. God, in His wisdom, had other plans for me for many years, including raising four children; homeschooling fo twenty-five years; being involved in church and homeschool groups; writing three Christian biographies for children; and growing deeper, through His Word, in the delight over who Jesus Christ is in and for and through me. When I began to write the Hidden Heroes series, I hadn't forgotten about the Karen tribes. In 2012 when I undertook the research for his boo, I discovered two things. One, to my delight, all the books about the Karen tribes written in the 1800s and early 1900s, and many of the journals and missionary bulletins, were now available online for easy access, any time of the day or night. But second and more important, I found that no one had ever written this story of the conversion of the Karen tribes for children--the story that began with Adoniram Judson and continued for over a hundred years. I felt astounded and privileged. I still do, even as I write this message to you. God is doing great things around the world, and I get to be a part of it through these books. A dream of my youth has come to pass. When Adoniram Judson took the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Burma in 1813, he didn't know that high up in the hills lived a tribe of people whose ancient stories and songs served as a continual reminders that one day the White Book that their ancestors had lost would be brought back to them. Rebecca Davis lives in Greenville, South Carolina, where she loves to research and write true stories for children and their families about God's great work all over the world. In schools and churches she presents dramatic storytelling events based on the books she has written. She and her husband have four children and two grandchildren. You can view all her books at hiddenheroesmissionarystories.com.
