This book is very easy to read, the action moves along swiftly, and the language is pure surfer Californian. We can obviously lookforward to further intriguing adventures of The Nomads!" -- The Californian, part of the USA Today network I'm a California native, so it's no surprise that my first two novels are California beach fiction . As a kid, I grew up loving the sun-drenched warmth of San Diego beaches--and the spine-tingling chill of horror movies. I vividly remember being creeped out by a scene in the movie, " Salem's Lot " (based on the novel by Stephen King ). A vampire floated outside a boy's bedroom window, scratching at the glass, saying, "Open the window, Mark. Please! Let me in! It's OK, Mark, I'm your friend..." Since then, I've been a huge fan of vampire series such as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "True Blood" (based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris ). On the 2010 summer solstice, as the new season of "True Blood" began and the movie version of "Eclipse" (book 3 in the " Twilight " series by Stephenie Meyer) was about to be released, I found myself pondering the concept of vampires, and an idea struck me. What if I introduced a California twist into vampire mythology--one that combines the darkly romantic allure of a vampire with the ultra-cool vibe of a surfer and ... something more? Ideas flooded into my brain. My laptop was too far away, so I grabbed a pencil and pad of paper and began scribbling them down. Before I knew it, I had the foundation for a completely new vampire myth. I stared at the pages and thought, This will be my first novel--a California beach read with a paranormal twist! On a rock-blaring road trip from the Monterey Bay (where I live now) to San Diego and then back up the California coast
