This is a story of the changes in the West Coast music scene during a turbulent time in our history: Civil unrest, the Vietnam war, student activism, political assassinations, and the Manson Murders all happened while I was trying to graduate from UCLA and find my way. One of the few escapes from this turmoil was the rock music of the day: The Doors, Janis Joplin, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Three Dog Night, Canned Heat and Glenn Frey with JD Souther. I was an aspiring songwriter working in the music industry. I was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time and I have a treasure trove of fond memories and compelling tales to show for it. This book captures the feeling of those times.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
