Grandmaster Larry Kaufman presents a very effective way for White to disrupt the plans and demolish the position of players on the black side of the popular Grünfeld Defence. The repertoire Kaufman recommends leaves Black the unpleasant choice of either facing a well-prepared opponent ready for immediate attack, or ending up in an altogether different opening which is not going to leave him very happy: the Saemisch variation of the Kings Indian. This aggressive approach, which has sometimes been called the Alekhine Anti-Grünfeld, should appeal to amateurs while being sound enough for elite players to employ. Kaufman clearly lays out the strategic concepts as well as the concrete variations and presents a wealth of new resources for both White and Black. , This book is nothing else than an absolute horror for every Grunfeld player. -- Martin Rieger ― Schachwelt Kaufman's work is rigorous and he has been able to find a significant number of improvements that should give food for thought for players of either color. The book lives up to the title and, yes, unless one is prepared accordingly, the knowledge therein could sabotage many a Grunfeld. -- Grandmaster Glenn Flear, author of Starting Out: Open Games Kaufman gives a lot of attention to his explanations. In many cases these comments are not very long, but quite to-the-point. An extraordinary book. -- Uwe Bekemann, German Correspondence Chess Federation An extremely solid opening repertoire, supported by powerful software; but of course Kaufman also regularly gives his own opinion on critical positions, an opinion that not always is the same as the one given by Komodo! -- Dr. W. Schweitzer ― Rochade Europa Magazine The analysis is unbiased and comprehensive, and Kaufman tends to provide enough verbal guidance to assist his non-master readers. Players looking for a new weapon against the Indian Defences would do well to consider buying this book. -- John Hartmann ― British Chess Magazine This move (3.f3) has been very topical against the Grunfeld at elite level in recent years and the American GM presents a compelling case for taking it up. ― CHESS Magazine Larry Kaufman is an American grandmaster and former World Senior Champion. He has been a researcher in computer chess and has lately co-developed the successful Komodo program. His latest book was the widely acclaimed The Kaufman Repertoire for Black and White. ,
