When Samantha is in a terrible car accident with her boyfriend Carl, she is left in a coma doctors cannot explain. While trying to find answers as to why their daughter is in a coma, Melinda and George find out that their worst fears are coming true. Their daughter has not only been attracting spirits but that she has sought out a spirit they had tried her entire life to protect her from. Now, Samantha is trapped in a psychic prison of her own making and Melinda and George need to do anything they can to help her get out. Melinda, George, and their friends from The Rowan Tree Tea House need to find a way to draw Samantha out of her mental prison. With the help of other psychics, here and on the Other Side, Melinda and George figure out a way to reach Sam within the depths of her own darkness. In the process Samantha's birth mother is brought back into her life and the reason for Samantha's peril is brought with her.
