Each plant will grow to a mature height of roughly 12 to 24 inches tall, displaying it's green, triangle shaped leaves for a few weeks until they begin to flower. Scarlet Sage is known to attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees, honeybees and hummingbirds as well. Salvia is categorized as a tender perennial flowering plant. Perennials, such as Scarlet Sage, will establish a deep root system the first year of growth. If temperatures aren't too cold during the winter months, the plants can survive, returning the following year to flower once again. If temperatures typically drop below freezing, you may have to reestablish the plants from seed.
