Light appeared and whisked darkness away. Soon an earth which was without form and void, was transformed into a beautiful, amazing paradise, filled with lush vegetation. Fish swimming in the sea, birds flying in the air. Cattles and insects moving about on the ground, the sun providing light and energy and the moon providing a lesser light to separate day and night (Genesis 1:1-26). What an awesome God!! On the sixth day, God brought His creation to a grand finale. While He called everything else into existence, on that day, God formed man from the dust of the earth and He breathed the breath of life into man and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). In retrospect, one can conclude that God crowned all of His creation by making man. He was happy with His decision to make man and looked forward to communing with man in the Garden on a daily basis (Genesis 3:8). It is interesting to note, how before God made man, that He created everything that man would need to be happy, to be comfortable and for man to survive; food, shelter, great ambiance, nice flowing rivers. Everything lush and perfect, you name them, God created them (Genesis 2:9-15). Among the trees that the Lord God made to grow out of the ground, was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. That was the only tree God warned Adam not to eat of, as the result of such action would be sure death (Genesis 2:9-17). God placed man in an environment that was perfect, but man was given limits and restrictions and of course, that was for man's own good. As if not satisfied with the provisions made for man, God announced, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him" (Genesis 2:18). Following His announcement, the Lord God put Adam to sleep and made a woman from a rib He took from Adam's side (Genesis 2:21-23). Adam did not have a say in the creation of the woman but was elated and completely satisfied with God's perfect gift. He named his miraculous gift, woman. In my mind, if Adam were living in our time he would say WOw, MAN!! Marriage Here comes the bride! Eve was now on the scene and that spelt perfection. Right away Adam fell in love and acknowledged that Eve, having been made from his body, was his equal (Genesis 2:23). He quickly proposed and before you knew it, a wedding was called and the Almighty God performed the very first marriage ceremony (Genesis 2:24). God's creation of Adam and Eve and their coming together as man and wife, set the platform on which marriages should stand throughout generations. This magnificent act of God, concludes that it is God who constituted marriage and that a marriage is to be between a man and a woman—monogamous. Hence heterosexuality, bisexuality, homosexuality and polygamy are not biblical and certainly did not and still do not form part of God's divine plan for mankind. Marriage before Sex The book of Genesis states in Chapter 4:1, that "Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived." To know a woman (in biblical term) is to euphoniously state a sexual union. In our world today, we would be more direct by saying Adam and Eve had sexual intercourse and she became pregnant. This verse points us clearly to God's intention for sex. That it is to be had between an adult married man and his wife. Certainly, sex was not ordained by God to be experienced by unmarried adults or by children. Note: Adam and Eve were not giv
