“He looked very bland, very benevolent, and no one gazing at the horn-rimmed, simple spectacles would have even ventured to guess that they concealed a pair of eyes glittering, alert, hard as steel, and a-reek with greed and resolve.” — The Man from Scotland Yard , 1908 For fifteen years, Sexton Blake had vanquished every crook and criminal he encountered. But in 1908, everything changed with the arrival of two legendary men who quickly became his greatest foes. George Marsden Plummer: A Detective-Sergeant at Scotland Yard with agate-green eyes who betrayed his badge in pursuit of title and fortune. Rupert Forbes: The debonair society prince renowned for his wealth, wit, charm, and extravagance. Devious, cunning, and brilliantly intelligent, both men were masters of strategy and disguise—and both harboured a passionate, near-psychotic hatred for Blake. Plummer debuted in The Man from Scotland Yard ; Forbes followed ten months later in The Mystery of the Egyptian Bonds . Each starred in a sequel before joining forces to exact their revenge in The Mervyn Mystery (1909), considered by many fans to be one of the finest Blake tales ever written. Though Forbes’ career was short-lived, Plummer would continue to match wits with Blake for the next thirty years, cementing his place as one of detective fiction’s greatest recurring villains. All five tales are collected in this volume for the very first time. Michael Storm (1867-1910) was the pseudonym for British author Ernest Sempill.
