Both President Monson and Elder Holland, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, have asked for more seniors to serve missions. Some wonder what it would be like. Still others have fears and reservations about serving a senior mission. Still others just aren't interested. This book is for those people, either given as a gift or for personal reference. “Shine” seeks to alleviate fears and obstacles seniors have about serving a senior mission. It does so by using experiences from many senior missionaries that show what a senior mission is really like. It reveals insider information that only senior missionaries know. This book addresses mission preparation, financial issues, health issues, what to do with your house, dependent adults, what to bring, what to wear, safety, the effects on your children and grandchildren, the unfathomable joy, the discouragement, and many other common senior missionary issues. It tells what it is really like serving a senior mission. "Shine" also highlights something unexpected: it tells a senior love story, something commonly experienced by senior missionary couples. It tells how senior missions polish marriages in ways no other life experience can. I served as a bishop before serving a senior mission with my wife. Seventy percent of our ward members were 50 or older. I felt inspired to encourage them to prepare for and serve missions. Interviewing these good people for missions opened my eyes to the fears and obstacles of serving a senior mission. Actually serving a senior mission with other seniors opened my eyes to how others overcame these fears and obstacles. In every case, including my own, I saw how missions polish marriages and make them celestial. Every LDS woman or man who reads this book will want his or her spouse to serve a senior mission with them, if possible, to receive the celestializing polish that senior missions produce. The title “Shine” actually refers to the polishing results that senior missions have on marriages. It is a powerful and inspirational read. “Shine” is the only book that focuses exclusively on senior missions. Senior missions are entirely different from missions served by young people and “Shine” addresses the difference. It is a great source of inspiration for seniors who have no interest in serving a senior mission, have already decided to serve a senior mission, have been thinking about serving, or may feel that their circumstances preclude them from ever serving a mission. Bye the way, some seniors fear that they will have to go tracting door to door like the young missionaries. Find out the real truth about this misconception and many others that hold seniors back from serving a mission.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
