Both President Monson and Elder Holland, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, have asked for more seniors to serve missions. Some wonder what it would be like. Seventy percent of our ward members were 50 or older. I felt inspired to encourage them to prepare for and serve missions. Interviewing these good people for missions opened my eyes to the fears and obstacles of serving a senior mission. Actually serving a senior mission with other seniors opened my eyes to how others overcame these fears and obstacles. In every case, including my own, I saw how missions polish marriages and make them celestial. Senior missions are entirely different from missions served by young people and “Shine” addresses the difference. It is a great source of inspiration for seniors who have no interest in serving a senior mission, have already decided to serve a senior mission, have been thinking about serving, or may feel that their circumstances preclude them from ever serving a mission.
