In the winter of 1846, after attending a performance of Shakespeare in Detroit, young wife Claire Hinman is found stabbed and bludgeoned in a snowy field. The person behind her death has devised a scheme to implicate Claire's husband, Carl. To avoid arrest, Carl flees to Ohio with his young daughter, Mariel. But the past soon catches up with him. Claire's father comes from the East Coast demanding answers, while a mysterious medicine show also begins to close in, for reasons of its own. When Mariel becomes ill, her only hope is a doctor in Detroit. Carl knows he must risk returning to the city he vowed never to set foot in again. There the characters converge, confrontations occur, old wounds are bound up, and a surprising killer is revealed. But will justice be served and the culprit held accountable? Praise for the novels of Hoing and Hileman " Hammon Falls takes its readers on a journey through multiple settings, points of view, and time periods, with every scene, every emotion, and every action described in beautiful prose that sparkles but is never overwrought." -Melissa Studdard, author of Six Weeks to Yehida "The authors take the reader back 130 years, there to see characters facing a set of circumstances and challenges radically different from those of our digital age. As a reader of biographies, histories, and many sorts of novels, I found quite a bit to enjoy in A Killing Snow ." -William Tate, author of Dark Strides " In the Blood is a tour de force that cries out to be translated into a feature film ... I unreservedly recommend it as compelling period reading that explores a society of the not too distant past but seems so alien to many of us living today..." -Donald Schnieder, Midwest Book Review Dave Hoing and Roger Hileman have been friends for a long time. They began their writing collaboration way back in high school with a goofy play called The Marx Brothers in Star Trek and have been working together ever since.Dave, an English major, is retired from the University of Northern Iowa library. How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
