Sign Safely - Interpret Intelligently is designed to assist sign language interpreters in the prevention and management of interpreting related injury. Proper interpreting ergonomics, nutritional interventions, exercise, stress management and pain management are discussed from a holistic perspective. Techniques for self-care utilizing acupressure, self-massage and nutritional therapies are given to provide interpreters a broad scope of tools with which to enhance their health. Sign Safely, Interpret Intelligently is a re-write of East Meets West: An Integrative Approach to Managing Overuse Injury to meet the specific needs and circumstances for sign language interpreters. Dr. Diane Gross, DOM, Dipl. OM, L.Ac., HLC, CI and CT (retired) specializes in prevention and management of interpreting-related injury training and ergonomic diagnostics. Diane is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, a Licensed Acupuncturist, a Holistic Life Coach, and is nationally certified both in Oriental Medicine and sign language interpreting. Diane was project coordinator/senior writer for prevention and management of interpreting-related injury training materials for NTID in the early 1990s. Diane is skilled both in sign language and interpreting ergonomics. She also teaches self-care using acupressure, self-massage and nutritional interventions. Diane has presented on this topic to interpreters around the country for almost 20 years.
