Throughout history, every person who has ever lived—good or evil—has left lessons behind for our betterment. We can learn wisdom from both the wise man and the fool; the wise leave behind golden nuggets of truth through their words and example, while the lives of the foolish teach us to appreciate that which we have, listen to the wise counsel of others, treat others with dignity and respect, and so much more! There is something worth learning from every life, regardless of what or who they allowed themselves to become. Even those we view as “the worst of mankind” truly believed they were doing what was best for all involved, even if that meant bending or breaking any rule along the way that stood in the way of doing that “good deed.” As someone so eloquently put it, "No monster sees a monster when they look in the mirror." Our lives, too, will one day become lessons for those who come after us. Between our selfish lusts and the seductive nature of Satan, we will fight a lifetime of battles, as will every other Christian brother and sister in Christ. Warren Wiersbe said, "While we are, where we are, God is measuring us and preparing us for the battles ahead of us." God puts us where we need to be—sometimes to help others and other times to get the help we need. He strategically positions us where He does, not for His benefit, but so we can be a friend to those who need uplifting, to prepare us for an upcoming battle, or to allow us to heal from our fresh wounds. Blindly following God, being submissive to His guiding hand, will always lead us to the exact spot we need to be at that precise moment in our lives. As a child of the King, we have so much to learn! And these lessons can be gleaned from the countless narratives chronicled throughout Scripture. The people in these Biblical accounts were actual people. They had emotions, trials, failures, and triumphs, just like we do. And they, too, usually thought they were doing the right things—what must be done. In this book, Simple Thoughts of a Simple Man , we will dive into a few of the historical narratives shared in the Bible. As we consider these “actual” people included, look for the emotions that each person must have had. We can find doubt, fear, love, hate, distrust, hope, peace, joy, and every other emotion if we closely examine each passage. Join us in these studies, where we will: Define true “love” and measure ourselves to reveal how much we really love Jesus. - Learn how to love and lead those we love most without becoming a dictator. - Consider the true definition of “Christian” and whether we measure up. - Learn why forgiveness is so vital to our Christian Walk and exactly how to forgive! - Investigate “Truth” and accrue tools to keep digging for yourself. - Explore the “first sin” (it’s not what you think it is) and how to avoid the pitfalls and dangers surrounding it. - And so much more!
