Publishing over twenty five years after the seminal first edition written by Dr. Michael Aldrich, this second edition of Sleep Medicine examines the developments in this field of medicine over this time, while also offering detailed guidance for practicing clinicians of all levels of expertise. Sleep Medicine features contributions from academics and leading medical practitioners in the field. The opening section includes a review of the basic science of sleep, prominent sleep disorders, and the assessment and treatment of those disorders. After this, the book examines sleep in specific populations, such as sleep in underserved populations, and occupational sleep medicine. Finally, there is an examination of the history of the field of sleep medicine and predicts future aspects of clinical sleep practice. Dr. Douglas Kirsch is the Medical Director of Atrium Health Sleep Medicine, where he maintains an active clinical sleep practice and oversees clinical sleep medicine for the health system. He is currently a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology at the Wake Forest School of Medicine and was previously on the faculty at the University of Michigan Medical School and Harvard Medical School. He was the 2018-19 President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and was the Program Chair for the SLEEP Meeting in 2012-14.
